Abatement Solutions

Our Current Focus

OPIOID ABATEMENT SOLUTIONS

Opioid settlements from drug manufacturers, distributors, and other entities have resulted in billions of dollars in payments to states and local governments. These funds are being used to address the opioid crisis in a variety of ways, including prevention, treatment, and harm reduction. Although state guidelines vary on how abatement dollars are to be used, many states require a portion to be used for primary drug prevention.

FEND is an evidence-based digital prevention tool that is designed to help young people make informed decisions about drug use. Our prevention content encourages youth to abstain from drug use, but also includes harm-reduction information for youth who are already experimenting or using drugs.

Over 20,000 young people have already participated in FEND, and it has proven effective in increasing knowledge, risk awareness, and help-seeking attitudes among youth.

FEND provides information on the risks of fentanyl, counterfeit pills, addiction, signs of an overdose and ways to respond, tips for building resilience, and breaking down stigma related to mental illness and substance use. It is delivered in a way that’s relevant to youth and is tailored to their specific needs.

FEND can be rolled out county or state-wide as a stand-alone tool or integrated with existing prevention coalition programs. FEND can also be implemented through schools and other youth organizations such as sports teams, youth groups etc.

Our content is evidence-based and locally informed. We work with stakeholders to include local drug trends and issues. Our content is sensitive to the experiences of youth who have been traumatized, as well as adapting to ensure cultural appropriateness.

In addition to the FEND tool for youth, we’ve also developed a resource for parents and caregivers. The drug scene has changed a lot in the past 10-15 years and parents need to know the risks their children face, how to talk with their kids about drugs and alcohol, and how to encourage them to make healthy choices.

FEND is an essential tool for preventing opioid and other substance use among youth. The program is effective, engaging, and sustainable.

The Preventum Initiative, (creators of FEND), is a 501(C)3 nonprofit that has focused on primary youth prevention since 2018. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of young people.
